Dare to Dream

Start The Year Fresh
Did you accomplish your one big goal this year? Did you have a goal? Do you remember your New Year’s resolution(s)? Or even a few ideas of what you wanted to achieve? Or were you like me for much of my adulting career: just hoping to survive and somehow feel a little better than I did at the beginning of the year?
Sometimes we can have vague notions of who we want to be or the kind of life we want to have but we can be paralyzed by the immensity of these dreams. Our lives are constantly changing and shifting with the seasons and stages that we walk through. Just when we feel we’ve got something figured out, a new twist or wrinkle causes us to rethink how we find passion and progress in our lives. This is when dreams can quickly fall to the side, fade away, be placed on the shelf to collect dust and maybe one day be visited again.
So how do we make sure 2023 is different? How do we start fresh this new year to find focus to achieve great things?
Dare to Dream!
If you’re like me, you might struggle with dreaming. You may have set New Year’s resolutions that failed in the past or have had major set backs or let downs along the way. Maybe you simply fear the possibility or even the work that it will take to accomplish something so big.
Each year I use this great (5-10min) exercise to help me dream big and begin setting my course for the year:
WRITE 1-3 big dreams you have for each of your life categories (where applicable)
- Mind (Intellect, Emotions, Mental Strength)
- Body (Exercise, Nutrition, Hydration, Sleep)
- Spirit (God, Faith, Purpose)
- Family (Children, Siblings, Parents)
- Marriage (Spouse, Intimacy, Connection)
- Community (Church, Social Groups, Charity)
- Work (Skills, Competence, Growth)
- Money (Budget, Investments, Debt)
- Hobbies (Fun, Leisure, Rejuvenation)
After writing these out, you will have a greater sense of what is on your mind and your heart. I encourage you to share your list with a close friend or loved one. They can give greater insight to where you are and who you want to be. From this newly written list, you will be armed with many great ways you can begin creating big goals for yourself in the new year.
Begin dreaming now. Don’t wait until January. That way your mind can start forming ideas of goals and ways to grow this next year. If you’d like to learn how to create clear and sustainable goals that you will actually achieve, you can sign up for my next workshop.

If you want to have success each year, you need to find focus each day.
